webinar: why japan? opportunities for EU companies

eujc_logoJapan is an extremely important global economic powerhouse, with a GDP valued at 500 trillion yen in 2012. Japan has 47 prefectures, with many of them producing a regional GDP comparable to the national GDP of many European countries.

With a well-educated and long-living population of 127 million Japanese ‘prosumers’ (professional consumers), this gigantic consumption market remains very often an underexplored market for exporting European companies. In particular, authentic and innovative European products and services, with strong Unique Selling Points (USP), are highly appreciated by Japanese consumers.

Japan and the EU have historically been strong business allies. The value of exported goods in 2012 stood at 55.5 billion euros, while imports from Japan stood at 63.8 billion euros that same year. Japan is also the 3rd biggest Foreign Direct Investor in the EU, valued at 9 billion euros in 2012.

At the beginning of 2013, Japan and the EU officially commenced their Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations, to be concluded by 2018. Once concluded, experts estimate that Europe’s economy as a whole will grow by 0.6-0.8% and is expected to create 420,000 new jobs. European exports to Japan should receive a growth boost of 30% once the agreement is rolled out. Continue reading

eu-japan centre – brussels office

eujc_logoThe Brussels Office of the EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation, following their spring 2013 public call for market researches about Japan, awarded a big chunk of their call for market studies to the Akoni team. Their decision was mainly based upon the quality of the Akoni proposal but also the long track record of more than a decade, combined with in-depth experience for services delivered to the European Commission’s Export Promotion Programme called EU Gateway to Japan in the past, favored Akoni’s pro-active approach. Akoni also assisted the Centre in their search for finding several other experts in very niche and specific market segments.

This project will feature a brand new English website with practical market and business intelligence for European Enterprises wishing to enter or increase their business volume with Japan. The new site will also include e-learning and online webinar functions in combination with a youtube video archive. Details about this exciting project can be found here: http://www.eu-japan.eu/eu-business-japan

poken

pokensparkii-150x150
It all started on a dark snowy winterday end of January 2009, while reading the newspaper on a business trip to Europe, our attention was caught by an article explaining about the suddenly getting popular connection gadget “poken” in The Netherlands.
As we are always hunting and alert for interesting products/services with an unique selling proposition for Japan, we took the liberty to contact poken in Lausanne, Switzerland and the rest is history 🙂
